Mankind has colonised thousands of planets around Earth, but previously centralised political control from Earth (initially the Terran Hegemony, then The Star League) has failed and groups of planets are now ruled by great and minor Houses, each dominated by a few powerful families and lineages, all vying for power and resources. This guide assumes that you have completed the tutorial and have a basic grasp of the UI, conducting battles, and weapons available, and are starting to explore some of the depth of the skill system, 'Mech building, lance composition and tactical nuances that exist within the game - either to find ways to improve your game - or to simply explore different tricks and strategies for fun and (virtual) profit (in C-Bills)! It is a thoughtful tactical turn-based mission-based game that allows quick access, but takes time to master and offers scope for experimentation on different levels. Battletech has a deep and long history and has a large base of fans, myself included, that love the lore and are desperate to like everything ever made about the Battletech Universe.īATTLETECH is a recent (2018) adaption of the game.

The franchise started as a tabletop wargame in the 1980s and has since spawned numerous books, games, role-playing systems and other things. They aren't fast enough to outrun a medium but they are generally stronger then all of them They work best as a heavy support.Welcome to Battletech - a game about giant robots at war in the 31st century. Heavy mechs bridge the gap between speed, power, and armour. A light mech is redundant-ish with a good enough pilot.Ī heavy is fast enough and strong enough to support the medium scout without being instantly wrecked. What would be best to add to this set-up? Another medium won't really scout any better for you. So a medium mech with speed with a pilot to match. Well, you would probably need a fast scout. Let's say you want to have 2 assault mechs with a lot of heavy firepower, armour, but hella-slow.

My suggestion is to look around for mechs that fit a playstyle you want to try. I would never say assault are the 'end all, be all.' Depends what missions you are running into.ĭoing an escort-mission with 4 assaults is a nightmare.ĭoing it with 2 light, 1 medium and 1 heavy long-ranged LRM platform? Much better. Some people play with 4 assaults, some have 1 light, 2 assaults, 1 heavy. This is where heavy comes in, they are fast enough to not get bogged down to much, they are strong enough to pack a punch even against an assault. The assault mechs sort of have enough firepower to kill, let's say, 2 mediums in one round with multiple targets skill.īut if they are facing 3-4+ they will gradually get swarmed because they struggle to actually flee. Which means they can be outflanked and swarmed quite easily. But they are slow as hell, so they take awhile to position properly. Some of them are very good though.Īssault are your killing machines, different mechs do different things naturally, but most of them regardless of what they are packs a -hefty- punch. They aren't heavy enough to load up on enough weapons, or armour. Mediums are your average whatever whatever. what else? the dragon for instance aint very DPSy but its movement is like that of a medium so u get a beefy agile mech,įor example, going into that, secure 3 beacons mission with stalkers and king crabs is almost a sure fail, but heavies can make do to the point and withstand the punishment. but the flamer + small lasers stunlock is a nightmare if you manage to get them close to literally anything, even assaults, their day is ruined if this happened. Then you have the grasshopper, super agile, can leap insanely far, fairly strong. Well some heavies like the orion, imo, are not only powerful but can carry tons of armor, mountains of steel if i may say, and, some more mobility, not that you'll get be getting a lot of pips, but at least they can move certainly move further than a king crab. Is is viable to take heavy when i have assault? As light and medium i can use as scouts.
